The essay film explores the possibilities and limits of creating a Brazilian adaptation of French writer Marcel Proust’s (1871–1922) monumental work, In Search of Lost Time. A landmark of literary modernism, the novel, written between 1906 and 1922 and published in seven volumes from 1913 to 1927, chronicles the discovery of a literary vocation and its creative process. To shape this cine-poem, the director draws on the only surviving film footage of the French writer, shot in 1904.
