Ola is only 14 but she is the head of a small dysfunctional family. She looks after her father who has lost touch with reality, just watches TV and drinks beer all day long and a 13-year old autistic brother, Nikodem. Ola‘s mother lives with another man and they have a baby together. But Ola believes she can still reunite her broken family. For this she relies on Nikodem‘s forthcoming first communion, an event whose preparation, like everything else in her life, falls squarely on her shoulders. The documentary is the debut feature film of Polish director Anna Zamecka and depicts Ola‘s coming of age with remarkable sensitivity as she is forced to abandon her illusions but refuses to let go of her dreams.
