Pamela Yates

In 1982 Pamela Yates visited Guatemala and came across with the peak of a civil war between students and indigenous Maya on one side, and a military dictatorship on the other. As a tragic consequence, tens of thousands of rebel disappearances were registered in a process that was described as a true genocide waged by security forces. The struggle became the subject of a documentary, ‘When The Mountains Tremble‘. Twenty years later, the democratization of Guatemala and the installation of a war crimes tribunal in Spain initiated a process to indicate those responsible for the crimes from the past. Identifying images of her old film as parts of the accusation, the director also questions her role in the events.
