When the director was six years old, her father flew to Cairo and never returned. Married to the Syrian-American artist Baha Al Omary, Mansur Rashid Kikhia was Libya’s Foreign Minister, ambassador to the United Nations, and a human rights lawyer. After serving in Muammar Gaddafi’s increasingly brutal regime, he defected and became a leader of the peaceful opposition. Considered a rising political star, he disappeared from his hotel in Egypt in 1993. Through interviews and rare archival footage, the film attempts to reconstruct the absent figure of the father while tracing Libya’s recent history.
