The São Paulo City Department of Culture and Spcine are pleased to celebrate yet another edition of It’s All True. The event, which holds a special place in the hearts of documentary film enthusiasts, is a fixture on São Paulo’s cultural calendar. This year, given the hybrid format, we’ll be able to pay tribute to the work of the filmmaker Ugo Giorgetti, who, in 2022, celebrates the eightieth year of a life largely devoted to the audiovisual world.

The celebration takes place between April 1 and 3, at the Paulo Emílio Theater, part of the Spcine Circuit, a cinema network run by São Paulo City Hall in mostly underprivileged neighborhoods. In all, seven features and three short films representing Giorgetti’s documentary filmmaking will be shown at three time slots over the course of three days. Among the films on-show are Rua São Bento, 405 (1976),Quebrando a Cara (1986), Variações sobre um Quarteto de Cordas (2004), and Paul Singer – Uma Utopia Militante (2021). The theater is located in the Centro Cultural São Paulo complex.

In addition to the sessions, the Spcine Invites educational program will also host the roundtable Ugo Giorgetti Retrospective, with José de Souza Martins and Claudio Willer conducting the interview and Rosane Pavam as mediator. This online discussion is scheduled for April 8, and will be made available on Spcine’s YouTube channel. Other elements in the partnership include a workshop exclusively for Spcine Film Club professionals and the hiring of one of its agents to serve as a monitor during It’s All True.

Let the plural stories told in the documentaries and discussed in the professional-improvement events help deepen the debate on a more ethical, diverse, and questioning world.

Long live It’s All True!
