BRAZILIAN COMPETITION JURY



Eloá Chouzal

A historian who has spent the last twenty years doing audiovisual research for cinema and television. She coordinated the research for the films Tropicália (2012), by Marcelo Machado, and Mulheres Olímpicas (2013), by Laís Bodanzky. She actively defends Brazil’s public audiovisual archives at trade organizations like the abpa and cinema movements, such as Cinemateca Acesa. 





Carlos Ebert 

Film and TV director and photographer, he was a member of the Cinema Marginal (Fringe Cinema) movement in the 1960s, making his debut as cinematographer on Rogério Sganzerla’s The Red Light Bandit (1968). He has worked on dozens of fiction films and documentaries, such as Vlado – 30 Anos Depois (2005), by João Batista de Andrade, and the series O Povo Brasileiro (2001), with Adrian Cooper and José Guerra. 





Renato Terra 

Author, screenwriter, and filmmaker, Terra directed the series O Canto Livre de Nara Leão (2022) and, with Ricardo Calil, the documentaries Uma Noite em 67 (2010), Eu Sou Carlos Imperial (2016), and Narcissus Off Duty (2020). Creator of “Diário da Dilma” (Dilma’s Diary), a comic take on the presidential diary published by Piauí magazine between 2014 and 2016, he also pens a political humor blog for the Folha de S.Paulo newspaper.

Luiz Bolognesi 

Author and filmmaker, Bolognesi directed the documentaries The Last Forest (2021) and Ex-Shaman (2018), and the series Guerras do Brasil.doc (2019) and wrote the screenplay for the film Brainstorm (2000), among others. Alongside the filmmaker Laís Bodansky, he co-coordinated the project Cine Tela Brasil, which produced over 450 short films by underprivileged youths between the 1990s and 2000s. 





Hugo Burel 

Uruguayan author, journalist, and graphic designer, he is the author of the award-winning novels El corredor nocturno (2007), adapted for film by the Spanish director Gerardo Herrero, El desfile salvaje (2009), and El caso Bonapelch (2014). His most recent book, La misión Rockefeller (2021), is set in Rio de Janeiro in 1942, during the filming of Orson Welles’ documentary It’s All True. 





Megan Mylan

Oscar-winning director and producer Megan Mylan creates observational documentaries with a distinct intimacy, such as Simple as Water (2021), Raça (2013), Lost Boys of Sudan (2003), and Smile Pinki (2008). Megan’s films have raised millions of dollars for charitable causes, recruited thousands of volunteers, and informed public policy.
