After a long time teaching in Princeton (USA), the writer Ricardo Piglia returns to his homeland Argentina. There, he self-imposed the Herculean task of reviewing for the first time his personal journals, which he’s been writing for the past 50 years, in 327 identical black cape notebooks that are no longer manufactured. In these notebooks, stored in cardboard boxes, are registered not only the records of a lifetime, but also half a century of Argentina’s history, passing through the rise and fall of the Peronism, the military dictatorship and the 1970s guerilla. Faced with this past, he must keep a constant confrontation with the amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, which affects his body but not his mind.
