The 161-year-old Barão de Mauá station was the first railroad built in Brazil – but little of it remains. And it’s not the only one. Thousands of abandoned train stations throughout the country are a testimony to the decline of the rail network, once dreamed up as a symbol of modernity, progress and integration. Despite everything, a few train lines as well as the memory of those journeys still remain. A photographer makes the inventory of the tracks of time, following the lead of the railway sleepers. Two engineers, a father and his daughter, exchange memories and long for a possible revival.
